Script to Screen

From Twilight director and New York Times bestselling author Catherine Hardwicke comes a reinvention of the classic Red Riding Hood fairy tale as a romantic fantasy thriller. Full of original illustrations and concept art, Red Riding Hood: From Script to Screen includes an introduction by Catherine Hardwicke, the full shooting script written by David Leslie Johnson, storyboards and behind-the-scenes photographs of the cast and crew that bring the film to life.

From director Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight,” “Thirteen”) comes the fantasy thriller “Red Riding Hood.”

Amanda Seyfried (“Letters to Juliet,” “Mamma Mia!”) stars in the title role. The film also stars Gary Oldman (“The Dark Knight,” the “Harry Potter” films), Billy Burke (the “Twilight” franchise), Shiloh Fernandez (“Skateland”), Max Irons (“Dorian Gray”), Oscar® nominee Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), Lukas Haas (“Inception”) and Oscar® winner Julie Christie (“Away from Her,” “Darling”).

For decades, the people of the village of Daggerhorn have maintained an uneasy truce with the werewolf, who prowls at every full moon, by offering the beast a monthly animal sacrifice to quench its appetite. But under a blood red moon, the wolf changes the stakes by taking the life of one of their own.

The victim is the older sister of Valerie (Seyfried), a beautiful, young woman, who has just found out that her parents (Burke and Madsen) have arranged for her to marry Henry (Irons), the scion of the town’s wealthiest family. But Valerie wants only Peter (Fernandez), the poor woodcutter she has loved all her life. Unwilling to be parted, the couple was planning to run away together, but, in a horrifying instant, the wolf changes everything.

As the townspeople hunger for revenge, famed werewolf hunter Father Solomon (Oldman) is summoned to Daggerhorn to kill the beast once and for all. But Solomon’s arrival brings only more turmoil as he warns everyone that the werewolf takes human form by day and could be any one of them. No one is above suspicion. Panic grips the town as the death toll rises with each red moon, tearing apart the once close-knit village. But it is Valerie who discovers she has a unique connection to the wolf that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Hardwicke directed “Red Riding Hood” from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson (“Orphan”). The film is produced under the banner of Appian Way by Jennifer Davisson Killoran (“Orphan”), Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julie Yorn (“Unstoppable”), with Jim Rowe, Michael Ireland and Catherine Hardwicke serving as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team was led by director of photography Mandy Walker (“Australia”), two-time Oscar®-nominated production designer Tom Sanders (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Dracula”), editors Nancy Richardson (“Twilight”) and Julia Wong (“X-Men: The Last Stand”), costume designer Cindy Evans (“Marley & Me,” “Thirteen”), and visual effects supervisor Jeffery A. Okun (“The Day the Earth Stood Still”). The music is by Brian Reitzell (“Lost in Translation”) and Alex Heffes (“The Rite”).

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, an Appian Way production, a Catherine Hardwicke film, “Red Riding Hood.” The film is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. It has been rated PG-13 for violence and creature terror, and some sensuality.
